Vorgehensweise in der Lehre / Note on teaching method

Der Vorlesungsstoff wird entsprechend dem Vorkenntnisstand der Hörer und ihrem akuten Interessengebiet akzentuiert. Bei Bedarf wird die Vorlesung samt Lehrgespräch auf Englisch gehalten.
Die Vorlesung stellt den Hörern anschauliche Konzepte vor, anhand derer sie leichter Zugang zum Inhalt von Lehrbüchern (z. B. Heckmann/Träbert: "Einführung in die Spektroskopie der Atomhülle", Wiesbaden: Vieweg 1980 bzw. "Introduction to the Spectroscopy of Atoms", Amsterdam: North-Holland 1989, beide in der Fakultätsbibliothek vorhanden) und Artikeln in Fachzeitschriften finden, in denen die Details erläutert werden. Das technische Gerüst ist auch in einem knappen Artikel "Atomic Spectroscopy" von W. C. Martin und W. L. Wiese im WWW zu finden (http://sed.nist.gov/Pubs/AtSpec/total.html). Das Vorlesungsgespräch ersetzt nicht die eigene Lektüre, sondern es erklärt den Kontext jenseits der grundlegenden Fachbücher. Das Selbststudium ist ein notwendiger Anteil an der Ausbildung.

The course content will be adjusted to the knowledge level and the actual working interest of the students. If necessary, the presentation and discussion will be in English.
The lecture presents didactically simplified concepts that are meant to enease the intellectual access to the content of established text books, of which a variety is available in the faculty library (among others, Heckmann/Träbert: "Einführung in die Spektroskopie der Atomhülle", Wiesbaden: Vieweg 1980 and "Introduction to the Spectroscopy of Atoms", Amsterdam: North-Holland 1989), and to journal papers with their high density of detailed information. The technical basics of spectroscopic notation are available, for example, in an article "Atomic Spectroscopy" by W. C. Martin and W. L. Wiese im the WWW (http://sed.nist.gov/Pubs/AtSpec/total.html). The lecture is not meant to make personal reading superfluous (learning by listening only is ineffective); the lecture aims to illuminate the context of basic text books, which should then help the students with reading those and with finding orientation beyond. One's own work with the literature is a necessary part of the education and learning process.
